Abstract

The paper discusses one of the largest naval landing operations in the world called “Overlord”. This operation was carried out on the Normandy coast in 5 directions: “UTAH”, “OMAHA”, “GOLD”, “JONO”, “SWORD”. During the operation, a combination of various aspects was identified, although the paper discusses only two of them - the deception operation and fire support. Only one of the aforementioned directions, “OMAHA”, created a problem, although later the Allied forces also achieved success in this direction.

Ultimately, the paper emphasizes the importance of deception and fire support for the implementation of such a large-scale and complex operation. Because the deception operation played an important role in the planning stage of the operation, and the German side was unprepared for the start of the landing process. As for fire support, the allied forces provided precise and coordinated fire in support of the landing force.
