Impact of the US Military Assistance on development of Georgia’s Defense capabilities

Abstract
The article examines the impact of U.S. foreign military assistance on Georgia's defense capabilities. It focuses on the programs implemented in the Georgian defense and security sector, their goals and achievements, as well as shortcomings, which ultimately contributed to improving the capabilities of the Georgian Defense Forces and increasing defense capabilities. The study shows that US support has made a significant contribution to strengthening and modernizing Georgia's defense capabilities. Organizational-level reforms have significantly improved the effectiveness of defense institutions. Access to advanced training programs and military education exchange programs has contributed to improving operational readiness, tactical skills, and strategic leadership. Over the past 30 years, the emphasis has been on developing both modern strategies and tactical skills, which has ensured the deepening of military professionalism. Additionally, the modernization of military equipment, including advanced weapons systems has enhanced Georgia's capabilities to address extraordinary threats.
In this article, the author focuses on the critical role of the Office of Defense Cooperation (ODC) of the US European Command in organizing and implementing relevant programs for the Ministry of Defense of Georgia and the defense forces. These programs are still aimed at reforming the structures, systems, and training of the military forces, which allows Georgia to meet global threats and challenges in a prepared manner. US military assistance has significantly contributed to the strengthening and modernization of Georgia's defense capabilities. In this article, the author relies on official information obtained from open sources (both domestic and international) and expert opinions. It is also worth noting that the author himself is a beneficiary of the aforementioned programs and also a participant in their planning, which makes the article even more interesting.
