Abstract

This section of the article discusses and analyzes the difficulties and challenges facing the implementation of mission command in the Georgian Defence Forces. The decentralization of troops and operations management requires the encouragement of creative initiative in the subordinate environment, which in turn increases the motivation and fighting spirit of the personnel. But at the same time, we also have to be aware that there are some inherent dangers in putting decision-making centers at the lower levels of the hierarchy.

The first is the lack of coordination and the risk of losing control of the situation created by the higher commanders. The second, and the main issue, is the potential lack of competence of the lower-level command staff, who should be characterized by high intellectual and personal qualities. And finally. In the process of mission command, personal conflicts between individual commanders, mutual distrust, inadequate self-esteem, and so on. The main difficulty is that mission command must become part of the culture of the Georgian army, its soul.

In reality, mission copmmand is an all-or-nothing proposition. It must be reflected in all aspects of the activities of a military organization if the commander wants its principles to be firmly embedded in the cultural fabric of the subdivision. These are the questions discussed in this article. The conclusion, in the view of the Chief of the General Staff, is that the doctrine, education and training of the Armed Forces of Georgia are the key to implementing a culture of mission command. Our doctrine should define the philosophy of mission command that our educational institutions teach, and we should be prepared to implement it on an individual and collective level. The key components I've described above are the center of gravity of the mission command implementation. If we can't successfully instill these qualities in our soldiers, we're not going to be able to get them into the armed forces and into practical use.
