Evaluation System

Reviewers provide a confidential assessment based on the Georgica: Journal of Georgian Studies evaluation form, with a positive review requiring a score of at least 51 points. Reviewers are given two months to provide a confidential review. They can recommend one of three options:

  • Positive Review:Recommends publication of the article as submitted.
  • Negative Review:Does not recommend publication.
  • Recommendation for Revision:The research is of good quality, but the article requires revisions to address specific comments and recommendations.

The article will be published if both reviews (a score of 51 points or more based on our evaluation form) are positive. If at least one reviewer recommends a revision then it will be sent for the revision to the author, but if at least one reviewer provides a negative evaluation then paper will be rejected.

If a reviewer recommends revisions, the author has one months to revise the article based on the feedbacks. The same reviewer then re-evaluates the revised paper. If the author disagrees with a reviewer's comments, the editors and selected editorial board members will review the author's position and make a final decision. The entire revision and review process typically takes four months.

Author Revisions If a reviewer recommends revisions, the author is given two months to incorporate the suggested changes. The same reviewer then conducts a final review of the revised manuscript. If the author disagrees with a reviewer's comments, the editors and selected editorial board members will review the author's position and make a final decision. The entire review process typically takes four months. Ultimately, while positive recommendations are a key factor, the editors retain the final authority to publish or decline a paper.

All submitted articles are evaluated by anonymous reviewers using a 100-point scoring system. An article is considered for publication only if it receives a positive assessment of 51 points or higher from both reviewers.

The evaluation criteria are as follows:

  • Content-Related Criteria (Maximum 20 points) and Methodology:This category assesses the relevance of the research problem and the clarity of the stated research goals. The proper research methodology used in the paper are under assessment too.
  • In-Depth Analysis, Research Quality (Maximum 20 points) and Novelty:Reviewers will examine the comprehensive development of the author's ideas, the scrupulousness of the problem analysis, the precision and complexity of the argumentation, the application of the scholarly literature to the subject matter and the new ideas or novelty that it brings to the specific field of study.
  • Data Reliability (Maximum 20 points):The accuracy of the data is verified, including whether the author relies on primary sources and if all cited sources are included in the reference list.
  • Article Layout (Maximum 20 points):This criterion evaluates the overall organization of the manuscript and the substantive development of each paragraph.
  • Conclusions (Maximum 20 points):The novelty and significance of the research findings are assessed, as is the logical consistency of the conclusions drawn in the article.

Any papers that is rated below 51 points will be rejected. Reviewers' anonymity will be maintained throughout and after the review process.
